About Kansas Defense
Kansas Defense was started in 2020, to better serve the gun safety educational needs of eastern Kansans through professional handgun classroom and range instruction and to provide Kansas Concealed Carry classes for those who wish to earn the Kansas permit.
Tom Boley
My background is in law enforcement. While in college at Kansas State University, I started out walking a beat on the Manhattan, KS, police department, served three years in Army counterintelligence, and then was a civilian special agent in the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) for 24 years. I grew up hunting and fishing with my dad in Illinois and he taught me about firearms from a young age. I first became interested in handguns while in high school, shooting with my homeroom teacher on his farm.
In late 2020, I obtained my NRA Instructor certification to teach the NRA Handgun course and certification from the Kansas Attorney General’s office to teach the Kansas Concealed Carry class, which is not an NRA class.
My wife and I have lived “back home” in Kansas since 2014 and we have made many new friends and have reconnected with many others from years past. When some of those friends learned that I had become a firearms instructor, many said they wished to get their concealed carry permit if I am going to teach classes. Thus, the idea for Kansas Defense was born.
